We Went to Press (and Politicos) to Stop the Deportation of Our Neighbor Juan Sierra

When the press did not show up to our press conference to stop the deportation of Juan Sierra today – we went directly to the press.

First we stopped by Obama Harrisonburg Headquarters.

Then we walked down to WHSV-TV to take the story of the unfair deportation of Juan Sierra to the reporters who cover our local community. Both reporters we spoke with assured us the story would appear on WHSV’s social media sites.

Don’t forget to call and petition to stop Juan’s deportation!

Juan was pulled over for a traffic violation in West Virginia, officers alerted ICE and Juan was thrown into deportation proceedings. His hearing is October 17, 2012. Juan has no criminal record. According to the Morton Memo, Juan is a low priority case and he should not be deported. You can read more about his story by clicking on the following link:

. Call John Morton, ICE to ask that Juan’s deportation be stopped: 202.732.3000. (See the link for sample script and case #)

Juan volunteers and plays for the Shenandoah Valley Premier Soccer League here in Harrisonburg and lives in WVA. Juan has been married to US citizen Maria Smith Sierra for eight years. They care for three children. Juan lost his job as a result of the threat of deportation. This action is destructive to his family, his friends and our community.

The people united will never be divided!
